The patents in question under the laws of the United States would be 6,502,135, 7,418,504, 7,921,211 and 7,490,151, all related to how to establish a secure communication link.
At Apple he is now the option to appeal the decision.Meanwhile, in the words of Kendall Larsen, VirnetX CEO and President:
We as a company are very pleased with the results of our demand to Apple. This win further establishes the importance of our patent portfolio.
According to the BBC, the final payment of damages is about half the amount originally requested VirnetX. In addition, the paper also points out that the company had reached an agreement with Microsoft for similar injuries by an amount of 200 million dollars.
VirnetX currently has a portfolio of 20 patents in the U.S. territory over 26 other international patents, this is the same company that has brought cases against Cisco, Siemens and Avaya for breaking or violating licensing its patents.
